Short answer

INNOVO shorts use electrical stimulation through built-in pads to contract the pelvic floor. Its UK site marketed them as unisex, including for men with bladder weakness, but the US FDA clearance is for stress incontinence in women, and the US store says it's no longer taking orders. Men's alternatives: guided training, Kegel8 V for Men, kGoal Boost or Emsella.

Most men who search for INNOVO found it through its UK marketing, which pitched the shorts as unisex — “no probes to insert” — for men with bladder weakness too. This page covers what INNOVO is, what’s actually known for men, where it stands now, and what men can use instead.

The main INNOVO review, based on the women’s clearance and evidence, is here: INNOVO pelvic floor shorts.

What INNOVO is

INNOVO is a pair of shorts with built-in electrode pads, connected to a handheld controller. It sends electrical impulses through the skin to make the pelvic floor contract — the maker describes 180 contractions in each 30-minute session, used five days a week. You don’t insert anything.

  • Maker: Atlantic Therapeutics, acquired by Caldera Medical in 2023.
  • US clearance: FDA-cleared for stress urinary incontinence in women, later including over-the-counter use.
  • For men: INNOVO’s UK site called the shorts unisex and had a dedicated “INNOVO for men” page for male bladder weakness. We found no published trials in men.
  • Status: the US store says it’s shutting down and no longer accepting orders. Check the UK site for current availability there.

Does INNOVO work for men?

We can’t say. The published clinical data we found is from women with stress incontinence. Men’s leaking is often different: after prostate surgery it is usually linked to changes around the urinary sphincter, and dribbling after peeing is usually trapped urine in the urethra. Neither has been studied with INNOVO as far as we could find.

That doesn’t mean it can’t help — pelvic floor stimulation is used in men — but it means you’d be relying on marketing, not evidence. Talk to your urologist before buying, especially in the months after prostatectomy.

INNOVO for men: pros and cons

  • Pros: non-insertable (a big plus for many men compared with anal-probe e-stim); does the contractions for you; simple routine.
  • Cons: no male trials found; US clearance is for women; big time commitment (30 minutes, five days a week); passive — doesn’t teach the squeeze you need when you stand up, cough or finish peeing; US store closed, so warranty and spare parts are uncertain.

Buying INNOVO secondhand or on Amazon

  • New and complete only. Shorts and pads are personal; used ones may not be hygienic or conduct well.
  • Warranty: contact INNOVO customer care via the official site before you buy.
  • Sizing: the UK site described the shorts as unisex; check the size guide for your waist and thigh.
  • Compare the total cost with the alternatives below.

Option How it works Insertable? Where Price Best for
Guided kegel training You contract the muscle No Home Free to low-cost Almost every man, first
Kegel8 V for Men Electrical stimulation; external pads or anal probe Optional Home Check current price Men who want home e-stim
kGoal Boost (men) Biofeedback cushion you sit on, clothed No Home Check current price Men who want to see their squeeze
Emsella Electromagnetic chair, clothed No Clinic About $1,200–$3,000+ per course Non-insertable stimulation, cleared for male incontinence

1. Guided pelvic floor training — first

After prostate surgery, guided training with a physio is the usual first step; the evidence is mixed but it’s low-risk and teaches the timing that stops leaks. For dribbling, a firm squeeze right after peeing often helps. Our prostatectomy guide and after-dribble guide walk you through it; the best kegel apps can keep you on track.

2. Kegel8 V for Men — closest home e-stim

Kegel8’s men’s toner has preset programs for leaks and rehab after surgery, and comes with two external electrodes for men who don’t want to use a probe, plus an anal probe option. It’s a CE-marked medical device in the UK/EU; check its US regulatory status and current price on Kegel8’s site.

  • Pros: designed for men; external-pad option is closest to INNOVO’s no-probe idea.
  • Cons: e-stim isn’t routine first-line care; not for men with pacemakers; ask your surgical team first after prostatectomy.

3. kGoal Boost — see what your muscles are doing

A cushion you sit on, clothed. It measures your squeeze and shows it in an app with vibration cues. It doesn’t stimulate — you do the work — but it tells you whether you’re squeezing the right muscles.

  • Pros: non-insertable; builds real voluntary control.
  • Cons: won’t help if you can’t produce any squeeze yet.

4. Emsella — non-insertable, in a clinic

The chair is FDA-cleared for urinary incontinence in men and women. One small 2025 study in men after prostatectomy looked encouraging but had no comparison group. See Emsella for men.

How to choose

  • Within a year of prostate surgery: follow your team’s plan; train, track leaks in the bladder diary, and review with them before buying a device.
  • Dribbling after peeing only: you almost certainly don’t need a device — try the after-pee squeeze first.
  • You can’t feel any squeeze: ask a physio whether stimulation or biofeedback would help.
  • Pain, a slow stream or pain after ejaculation: don’t strengthen yet — take the Tight or weak? check.

Frequently asked questions

Does INNOVO work for men?

INNOVO's UK site marketed its shorts as unisex and published pages about male bladder weakness. But the FDA clearance in the US is for stress urinary incontinence in women, and we found no published male trials. Treat results for men as unproven, and talk to your urologist first.

Can I still buy INNOVO in the US?

INNOVO's US website says its store is shutting down and no longer accepting orders. You may still see third-party listings on Amazon or eBay. Check that it's new and complete, and ask about warranty — support may be limited.

What's the best INNOVO alternative for men?

Start with guided pelvic floor training — it's the usual first step after prostate surgery and for dribbling. If you want e-stim, Kegel8 V for Men is a home unit with external pads or an anal probe. kGoal Boost is a sit-on biofeedback cushion. Emsella is a clinic chair cleared for male incontinence.

INNOVO vs Kegel8 for men: which is better?

They're different. INNOVO applied stimulation through shorts and its US clearance was for women. Kegel8 V for Men is designed for men and comes with external electrodes or an anal probe option. Neither replaces learning a voluntary squeeze. Ask a clinician before any e-stim, especially after surgery.

Should I use stimulation after prostate surgery?

Only with your surgical team's agreement. Leaking usually improves over months after prostatectomy, and guided pelvic floor training is the usual first step. Stimulation is sometimes added for men who can't produce a squeeze, but it isn't routine.
